HOLLYWOOD - Tickets are now on sale for the spectacular 20th Annual Mariachi USA
Festival at the Hollywood Bowl on June 20. Among the numerous international groups gracing the
Hollywood Bowl stage will be Mujer 2000 and Mariachi Campanas de America.
Mujer
2000, which performed in the opening ceremonies for the 2008 Summer Olympics in
Beijing, China, also performed for Oprah Winfrey’s fundraiser that she hosted
for President Barack Obama during his bid for the presidential nomination.
The
group’s musical director Laura Sobrino, a pioneer in the U.S. Mariachi
world, was dubbed the Mariachi Queen by the Los Angeles Times in 1995.
The
former director and lead violinist for the Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles,
Sobrino began her mariachi career in 1957 while studying for her BA in music at
the University of California in Santa Cruz. She later moved to the Los Angeles
area where she became one of the first women to play in some of the nation’s
most prestigious mariachi groups, including the Mariachi Los Galleros de Pedro
Rey and Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose L. Hernandez.
Mariachi
Campanas de America, directed by Juan Ortiz, has such a long history with
Mariachi USA that many of its members were mere teens when they first performed
at the festival. Founded in 1979 in San Antonio, Texas, the group provides a unique sound with its inclusion of a saxophone, trombone and an accordion in their music.

LOS
ANGELES - It’s not every day you can go to lunch in a limo – but you can now – that

available to all businesses within a five-mile radius of the restaurant,
located at 2501 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles, CA. 90051.
