YES GRINCHIE POOH, THERE REALLY IS A SANTA POOCH
Now Isn't That Something!
Canines who don't believe in Santa Pooch just don't know what they're missing. For years, Santa Pooch squeezed through our doggie door loaded down with doggie bones and special Christmas treats for our two mutts, Snaggletooth and Fraidy Cat.
A Christmas never went by when he didn't load up their stockings with all kinds of goodies and our mutts knew they better watch out and better be good or Ole Santa Pooch would pass them by.
On Christmas Eve they would snuggle up in their doggie beds and keep one eye open for that big fat dog. The rest of the year they slept on the bed with my husband.
Now, I never saw him, mind you, but I knew he existed because every Christmas I would check the doggie bowl we left out for him and every year the doggie treats we put out for him were gone. Snaggletooth used to be a grinch about Santa Pooch until he woke up one Christmas and found his stocking full of edible goodies. That made a believer out of him.
Snaggletooth and Fraidy Cat were quite a pair. We had them for years and they brought us a lot of pleasure, not to mention a few headaches now and then. But every year just before Christmas, we'd sit them down and have a good man to dog talk with them about their behavior. And, we know they were listening because their tails kept wagging a mile a minute. For a month before Christmas they were on their best behavior. They didn't jump on the furniture, hog the television or sit at the dining room table.
Of course, Snaggletooth was still permitted to play the piano, but he refrained from doing it at three in the morning. And Fraidy Cat still barked at the mailman occasionally (as he hid behind the sofa) just to show us how brave he was. The rest of the year he could be found under the bed hiding from his own shadow.
I'm not really sure what time Santa Pooch made his appearance, but I suspect he showed up at about the same time as that Jolly Ho Ho Ho fellow, because we could hear them both slurping up the egg nog we used to leave out for both of them.
So, the next time your dog doubts there's a Santa Pooch, tell him not to be such a grinch. Who knows, the next fat dog that chases him down the street just might be Santa Pooch. Now, isn't that something!
